SJC Falls in GNAC Quarterfinals, 64-54

NORTHFIELD, VT - The Saint Joseph's College Women's Basketball season has come to an end after a 64-54 loss to Norwich University in the GNAC playoffs on Tuesday evening. SO Allison Miner (Pembroke, NH) led St. Joe's with 12 points in the contest. The women wrap up their season with a 15-10 record, 8-4 in GNAC competition.

Norwich led for most of the first stanza until St. Joe's used an 11-2 run late in the half to help stake a two-point lead 28-26, going into the break. Allison Miner recorded eight points during the SJC offensive surge which featured sharp passing by the St. Joe's players.

Saint Joseph's College extended their lead to six points, 32-26, early in the second half after SO Meghan Daigle (Grantham, NH) hit a jumper at the 18-minute mark. Cadets' junior guard Kayleigh Shappy (Burlington, VT) made a three-pointer and minute later connected on two free throws to knot the game at 32 apiece with 15 minutes remaining.

The lead exchanged hands 5 times in the following five minutes before Norwich sophomore guard Ally Daniels (Concord, NH) connected on field goal attempts on back-to-back trips down the floor to give her team a 39-38 lead with 10 minutes remaining.

Minutes later, the Cadets would muster an 11-4 run that would produce a 10-point lead, 56-46, with three minutes to play.

FY Sarah Fournier (Jay, ME) and JR Liz Jordan (Sandwich, MA) both made three-pointers down the stretch to keep the game within reach, but Norwich converted 6 of 8 free throw attempts in the closing minutes to help preserve a Cadets victory.

For St. Joe's, FY Erin Cartwright (Acton, MA) tallied 11 points and 4 rebounds and Meghan Daigle added 8 points and 7 boards. Liz Jordan and SO Carolyn Freeman (Scarborough, ME) each netted 8 points and JR Alysn Ludwig (Waldoboro, ME) added 6 rebounds in the contest.

For the Cadets, Natalie Marchese (Rutland, VT) scored 14 points, Kayleigh Shappy added 11 points and Laural McWilliams (Swanton, VT) tallied 11 points and 10 boards in the Norwich victory.

Norwich converted 20 of 27 free throw attempts (74%) in the game.

#3 Norwich (10-3 GNAC, 12-13 overall) will face #2 seed Suffolk University in the GNAC Semifinal round, hosted by top seed Emmanuel College in Boston, MA, on Friday, 2/29. For the Cadets, the win over St. Joe's on Tuesday evening was the team's seventh consecutive victory.
