Saint Joseph’s to Play at Rhode Island College in NCAA Tournament First Round

STANDISH, Maine - The 2024 NCAA DIII Women's Basketball Tournament field has been announced and Saint Joseph's College (21-7, 14-0 GNAC) is scheduled to play at #3 Rhode Island College (27-0, 16-0 Little East) in a first round contest on Friday, tip-off TBD.

More information will be released on www.gomonks.com at some point on Tuesday following a conference call with NCAA officials.

Led by 32nd-year Head Coach Mike McDevitt '83, the Monks earned an automatic qualifier into the national tournament for the second-consecutive year after defeating University of Saint Joseph, 85-72, in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship at the Harold Alfond Center on Saturday. Saint Joseph's, which earned an at-large berth into the 2019 NCAA Tournament, will be making the program's seventh appearance in the "Big Dance" when they play at Rhode Island College on Friday.

As the top seed in the Little East Conference (LEC), Rhode Island College cruised past UMass.-Dartmouth, 67-52, in the LEC Championship in Providence on Saturday. For the Anchorwomen, the LEC title is the program's fourth-straight and sixth overall. RIC will be playing in the NCAA Tournament for the seventh time in team history.

Friday's NCAA Tournament contest will be the first-ever meeting between the Saint Joseph's and Rhode Island College women's basketball programs.

The other Friday evening contest in the four-team pod at Rhode Island College features Gettysburg College (24-3) and St. John Fisher (23-4). The winner of the RIC/SJC contest will face the Gettysburg/St. John Fisher victor in a second-round matchup on Saturday.
