St. Joe's Defeats the Owls, Weather Defeats Tourney

PRESQUE ISLE, ME - The Saint Joseph's College Women's Basketball team traveled north to Presque Isle on Friday, 12/14 to take part in the Star City Tournament hosted by the UMPI Owls. Unfortunately for the weary travelers, the weather would not allow a tournament to be held. The St. Joe's women played the host Owls in a single game, winning 72-53, and returned home with a 6-3 record while the 3-5 Owls stayed behind to swing their shovels in the snowstorm.

St. Joe's senior captain Marie Lint (Orono, ME) scored 18 points and grabbed 11 boards, both team and game highs. Lint was named the Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association player of the week and was named to the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll for her outstanding game versus the Owls.

Sophomore Carolyn Freeman (Scarborough, ME) continued her high level of play as she made 4 of 5 three-point attempts and scored 14 total points in the game. Freshman Erin Cartwright (Acton, MA) helped keep the Owls "D" honest, scoring 10 points from her point guard position.

Sophomore Allison Miner (Pembroke, NH) grabbed 6 rebounds and dished out 4 assists in the win. SR Megan Farrell (Abington, MA) and JR Andrea Enright (Holyoke, MA) both provided valuable minutes off the bench in the victory. Farrell had 5 rebounds and 3 blocked shots and Enright scored 6 points, grabbed 5 boards and notched 3 steals to help secure the win.

The Saint Joseph's College women play host to Newbury College on 1/8/2008 at 5:00 PM.
