STANDISH, ME - Saint Joseph's (9-9, 2-3 GNAC) defeated
conference rival Albertus Magnus College (5-9, 0-5), 69-60, on
Saturday afternoon at the Alfond Center. Megan
McDevitt ‘12 (Cumberland, ME) led the way
with a career-high 19 points and Alysn
Ludwig ‘09 (Waldoboro, ME) chipped in with a
season-best 16 points in the victory. Falcons forward Nikki
McClease ‘11 (New Haven, CT) topped all scorers with 21
points and also added 15 rebounds in a losing effort.
With the help of two three-pointers and eight points from
McDevitt, St. Joe's led 12-2 eight minutes into
the game. The Lady Monks held at least an eight-point advantage for
the rest of the first half and pushed the lead to 21 points, 38-17,
going into halftime. The freshman McDevitt scored
16 points in the opening stanza.
McDevitt capped her afternoon with a pair of
freebies five minutes into the second half to provide Saint Josephs
with their largest lead of the game, 45-20.
With seven minutes remaining, the Falcons managed an 18-7 surge to
trim the deficit to single digits after trailing by more than ten
for 25 minutes. The Lady Monks held a 60-51 lead with 2:36 after
the AMC run, which was highlighted by seven points from
McClease.
The visitors were unable to wrestle away the lead, however, as the
two teams essentially traded baskets for the final two minutes and
St. Joe's led 69-60 when the final buzzer rang.
The Lady Monks were particularly successful from the charity stripe
in the triumph, as eight players combined to convert 22 of 27
attempts for an 81.5% success rate, the second-highest mark of the
season. St. Joe's forced 27 AMC turnovers and recorded 18 assists
on 22 baskets in the contest.

rebounds and Allison Miner
‘10 (Pembroke, NH) grabbed seven boards.

Daigle ‘10 (Grantham, NH) chipped in with
eight points in the win. McDevitt drained three of
five attempts from beyond the arc and six of nine overall.
For Albertus Magnus, Gia Paturzo '09 (North Haven, CT) went 3-6
from downtown and netted 11 points while teammate Krystal Bryant
‘11 (New Haven, CT) added 15 rebounds and nine points in the
loss.
Saint Joseph's will travel to Nashua, NH on Thursday, January 29th
to face off against GNAC foe Rivier College. Tip off is scheduled
for 6:00 PM.
