STANDISH, ME - Andrea Enright '09 (Holyoke, MA) netted a season-high 13 points, leading five SJC players who reached double-digits, to help Saint Joseph's (5-2) defeat College of Saint Joseph (VT) (1-3) by a 95-40 score in the Merry Monk Classic Tournament opener on Friday evening. Carolyn Freeman '10 (Portland, ME/McAuley) and Kayla Nowell '11 (Bridgton, ME) both notched double-doubles in the victory. Jessica Cortese ‘10 (Hudson Falls, NY) scored 15 points for the Fighting Saints to lead all scorers in the game.

Green Mountain College defeated University of Maine at Presque Isle, 80-44, in the nightcap contest to advance to the tourney title game, which will be played on Saturday at 2:00 PM, against St. Joe's. Presque will play College of Saint Joseph in the consolation contest at 12:00 PM. (GAME STORY BELOW)

As a team, St. Joe's grabbed 62 rebounds, two shy of the program's game record 64, and forced 30 turnovers, with 19 steals, in the victory. The Fighting Saints had 24 boards and just three steals in the losing effort.

Saint Joseph's jumped out to a 17-4 lead after nearly fifteen minutes of play with Freeman collecting six points during the opening surge. College of Saint Joseph fought back to outscore the Lady Monks 7-2 in the following five minutes to cut the SJC lead to eight points, 19-11, with 9:35 remaining in the first half. After a timeout, St. Joe's squelched the Fighting Saints' comeback bid with two steals and five points in a matter of 15 seconds as Alysn Ludwig ‘09 (Waldoboro, ME) hit a jumper and Freeman connected on a three off the turnovers to put their team back up by 13, 24-11, with 8:54 to play before the break.

The Royal Blue went on to pour on 21 points to just seven from the Fighting Saints to close the opening stanza with a comfortable 45-18 lead. The Lady Monks scored 20 points off turnovers and received 20 points from the bench in the first half alone.

In the second half, Saint Joseph's shot an even 50% (21-42), 47.1% (40-85) overall, and outscored the Fighting Saints, 51-22, to seal the victory.

For the Lady Monks, Freeman netted 11 points with 12 rebounds and Nowell notched her first collegiate double dip with 10 points and 10 boards. Meghan Daigle ‘10 (Grantham, NH) scored 10 points, Ashley Geel ‘12 (St. George, ME) tallied 10 points and six rebounds, Ludwig notched eight points, five rebounds and five steals and Erin Cartwright ‘11 (Acton, MA) posted the rare triple-seven effort - seven points, seven rebounds and seven assists - in the triumph.

For College of Saint Joseph, Linda Clements ‘10 (Oxbow, VT) scored 10 points and Michelle Thompson ‘09 (Plymouth, NH) added nine points and four assists in the losing effort.

Green Mountain Handles Presque Isle, 80-44

Green Mountain College led 33-12 at the break and went on to defeat the University of Maine at Presque Isle, 80-44, in the nightcap contest to advance to the tourney title game against Saint Joseph's College. In the victory for the Eagles, Emma Buckley ‘10 (Lakeville, CT) was just one block shy of a triple-double with 16 boards, 12 rebounds and nine blocks.

As a team, GMC shot 50.8% (32-63) from the field and notched 27 assists to topple the Owls, who shot just 21.9% (16-73).

For the Eagles, Natalie Clark ‘09 (West Palm Beach, FL) and Molly Hopper ‘11 (Gouvernor, NY) both netted 14 points to lead all scorers and Christina Chamberlain ‘09 (Woodstock, VT) notched a double dip with 11 caroms and 10 points.

For the Owls, Megan Korhonen ‘11 (Littleton, ME) had 13 points while Whitney Flint ‘12 (Ashland, ME) scored 12 points and Mindy Sullivan 10 (Lisbon Falls, ME) registered 13 rebounds.
