WATERVILLE, ME - The Saint Joseph's women's basketball team
improved to 2-0 and advanced to the title game of the Colby
Invitational Tournament with a 81-50 victory over Thomas College
(1-1) on Friday evening. Meghan
Daigle '10 (Grantham, NH) was the game's high
scorer with 19 points, while Casey
Drake '11 (Lebanon, NH) poured in 14 and
Alysn Ludwig '09 (Waldoboro, ME)
chipped in with 10 points. St. Joe's will face host Colby College
in the tourney championship on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 PM.
St. Joe's, aided by a opening ten minutes that saw the Terriers
turn the ball over 10 times and shoot 2-11 from floor, never
trailed in the contest and led by double-digits from the 15-minute
mark of the first half until the end of the contest, when the Royal
Blue had mounted a game-high 31 point lead.
Daigle, 7-11 from the floor and 5-6 from the line
overall, scored 10 of her 19 points in the first five minutes of
the game to help St. Joe's establish a commanding 15-3 lead
early.
St. Joe's, with 19 points coming from players off the bench, led
42-27 going into intermission.
Drake netted 11 of her 14 points, shooting a
perfect 3-3 from beyond the arc, and Andrea
Enright ‘09 (Holyoke, MA) scored seven
points in the second stanza to help Saint Joseph's maintain the
lead and secure the 81-50 victory over Thomas College.

Erin Cartwright ‘11 (Acton,
MA) and Enright all chipped in with seven points
apiece and Allison Miner
‘10 (Pembroke, NH) had six points. Ludwig
and Cartwright shared the team lead for rebounds
with five each, while Miner dished out a team-high
four assists and Drake collected three steals.
Jess Nassetta ‘10 (Standish, ME) led the Terriers with 10
points and Alexis Evans 11 (Emden, ME) added nine points. Mallorie
Blakney ‘11 (Fairfield, ME) grabbed a game-high seven
rebounds in the losing effort.
Collectively, Saint Joseph's was 17-21 (81%) from the line and
30-70 (42.9%) from the floor while Thomas made 50% (6-12) of their
free throws and 30.3% (20-66) of their field goals.
Saint Joseph's will take on Colby College at 3:00 PM in the
tournament title match on Saturday while Thomas will face off
against University of Maine at Presque Isle in the consolation game
at 1:00 PM. Colby College defeated University of Maine at Presque
Isle, 70-39, in the tourney opener on Friday evening.
