Young Collects Third MWBCA Rookie of the Week Honor

STANDISH, ME – The Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA) weekly report has been released and Saint Joseph's freshman forward Abby Young (North Yarmouth, ME) has garnered Rookie of the Week honors for the third time this season.

Young averaged 12.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game in a 1-1 conference week for Saint Joseph's and scored 13 in a win over Lasell on Saturday.

Through 22 games for the 14-8 Monks, Young ranks second on the team in scoring (9.5 RPG), rebounding (5.1 RPG), field goals made (83), field goals attempted (192) and blocked shots (26).

With 210 points this winter, Young is just the fourth rookie since the 2000 campaign to eclipse the 200-point mark. Abbie Rice '04, Carolyn Freeman '10 and Ashley Geel '12 are the others.

Young previously collected the top rookie honor from the MWBCA on November 22nd and January 10th.

Saint Joseph's will host Emerson College tonight at 7:00 PM and will close out the regular season with a conference contest Mount Ida (3:00 PM) on Saturday at 3:00 PM.
