Young Earns Fourth  Top State Rookie Honor

STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph's freshman forward Abby Young (North Yarmouth, ME) has been selected as the Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA) Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive reporting and fourth time overall this season.

Young helped the Monks win three conference contests last week and averaged 9.0 points and 6.3 rebounds in the trio of GNAC tilts. The freshman forwarded tallied 13 points and eight boards in a win over Pine Manor on Thursday.

Through 26 games for the 18-8 (9-3 GNAC) Monks, Young is averaging 9.4 points and 5.3 rebounds with 29 blocked shots. She is currently shooting 43.5% (97-223) from the floor and 71.4% (35-49) from the free throw line and, with 245 points this year, is the Monks' highest-scoring first-year player since Carolyn Freeman '10 tallied 277 points during the 2006-07 campaign.

Saint Joseph's, the #3 seed in the GNAC Tournament, will face off against #2 Suffolk University in Boston tonight in a conference semifinal contest at 7:00 PM. The Monks defeated #6 Emerson College, 69-48, in the quarterfinal round Tuesday night at the Alfond Center.
