Young Tabbed as GNAC Rookie of the Week

STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph's College freshman forward Abby Young (North Yarmouth, ME) has been selected as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week.

Young collects her first conference top rookie honor after averaging 9.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in a pair of GNAC Tournament tilts last week. She has been listed on the conference weekly honor roll three times and has garnered Maine Women's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association (MWBCA) Rookie of the Week honors four times this winter.

Young capped her freshman campaign averaging 9.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game. Her points and rebounds averages are the highest by an SJC rookie since Carolyn Freeman '10 netted 10.7 PPG and 5.8 RPG during the 2006-07 campaign.

Saint Joseph's finished the season 18-9 overall and 9-3 in GNAC play under 18th-year Head Coach Mike McDevitt '83. The Monks notched the program's highest win total since the 2001-02 campaign and advanced to the GNAC Semifinals for the first time in four years as a conference member.
