Young and Dufour Collect MWBCA All-Rookie Accolades

STANDISH, ME – The 2011 Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA) All State honors have been released and Saint Joseph's freshmen Abby Young (North Yarmouth, ME) and Mackenzie Dufour (Augusta, ME) have received All-Rookie Team accolades.

Both rookies played major roles for a Monks squad that went 18-9 overall and 9-3 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference games this year. Young played in all 27 games and averaged 9.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game. Dufour started all 27 contests and registered 4.0 points, 4.1 assists, 2.2 boards and 2.0 steals per tilt in 2011.

Young finished her first collegiate season with the highest points per game average by an SJC rookie since Carolyn Freeman '10 netted 10.7 PPG as a freshman in 2007. Also, her 32 blocked shots ranks is the 10th-highest single-season total in program history. Young collected the MWBCA Rookie of the Week award four times and was listed on the honor roll twice this season.

Dufour is the Monks' first player to register 100 assists in a season since Stacy Gelinas '02 dealt 136 dimes in 2002. She earned MWBCA Rookie of the Week honors on February 27th and was listed on the weekly honor roll three times this winter.

Young and Dufour are the first St. Joe's players to garner Maine All-Rookie Team honors since Laura Pelkey '05 and Lynn Marcotte were recognized in 2002.
