2011-12 Women’s Basketball All-GNAC Teams Announced

STANDISH, ME - The 2011-12 All-GNAC Women's Basketball Teams have been released and two Saint Joseph's College players have been honored.

Senior center Ashley Geel (St. George, Maine/Georges Valley), a Second Team selection as a junior, has garnered First Team honors this winter while senior guard Megan McDevitt (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) earned her first All-GNAC accolade with a Second Team listing.

Geel closed her collegiate career with her finest season as the 6'1 center posted career-highs in scoring (12.1 PPG), points (340), field goals made (142), field goal percentage (50.9%), free-throw percentage (70%), rebounding (7.3 RPG), rebounds (204), assists (43) and steals (18). One of the top post players in the GNAC, Geel recorded seven double-doubles, led the Monks in scoring in 11 different contests, and was the team's leading rebounder in 15 games.

McDevitt, one of the elite long-distance shooters in program history, paced the Monks in three-pointers made (52) and three-point percentage (39.1%) during her senior season. She finished the year tied for the team lead in free-throw percentage (87.7%) with junior guard Danyelle Shufelt (Sutton, Vt.) and ranked second on the team in scoring (11.1 PPG) as a senior.

With 16 points in a win over Pine Manor College on February 7th, Geel became the 20th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point plateau and leaves the program with 1,093 career points. She ranks as the SJC Basketball - both men's and women's - all-time leader with 202 blocked shots and currently ranks eighth in team history with 672 rebounds.

McDevitt became the Monks' all-time leader in three-pointers made (180) when she drained her first of two trifectas in a loss to Emmanuel College in the GNAC Championship game on Saturday. The two-year team captain capped her career with the second-highest three-point efficiency rate (38.9%) in program history and netted 948 points (21st) over four seasons at Saint Joseph's.

Senior forward Allie Parent (Camden, Maine/Camden Hills) is the Monks' 2011-12 GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team representative. Selected to receive the honor by vote of her teammates, the all-around contributor tallied 6.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.2 steals while starting all 28 contests during her senior campaign.

Under the guidance of 19th-year Head Coach Mike McDevitt '83 (376-146, .720), St. Joe's went 20-8 overall and posted a 12-1 record versus GNAC opponents on the way to gaining the #2 seed in the conference tournament. The Monks hosted two tourney tilts as the Royal Blue defeated #7 Albertus Magnus, 89-51, in a quarterfinal matchup on February 21st and tipped #3 Rivier, 59-58, at home two days later before falling to top-seeded Emmanuel, 68-57, in the GNAC Championship on Saturday.
