STANDISH, ME – Head Coach Mike McDevitt '83 has released the 2012 women's basketball team awards. Four honors – Most Improved, Best Defensive, Most Valuable, and T.E.A.M. awards were given to deserving team members following the completion of the 2011-12 campaign.

Sophomore forward Lindsay Moore (Barrington, N.H.) has been selected as the 2012 Most Improved Player. Moore worked her way into the starting lineup early in the season and posted impressive numbers across the board last winter, ranking as the team leader in field goal percentage (.511, 121-237) with solid averages in both scoring (10.1 PPG) and rebounding (6.3 RPG) as a second-year player.

The 2012 Best Defensive Player honor goes to sophomore point guard Mackenzie Dufour (Augusta, Maine). The second-year starter racked up a team-high 41 steals with a 1.2 assist/turnover ratio with per game averages of 3.3 points, 3.0 assists, and 2.0 rebounds in 28 contests, all starts, last winter.

Senior center Ashley Geel (St. George, Maine), a 2012 First Team All-GNAC and Second Team All-State honoree, is the Monks' 2012 Most Valuable Player after leading the squad in scoring (12.1 PPG), rebounding (7.3 RPG), blocked shots (47), field goals made (142), and free throws made (56) during her final collegiate campaign. Geel, the 20th member of the SJC women's basketball 1,000-point club, capped her four years as the team's career leader in blocked shots (202) and scored 1,093 points with 672 rebounds in 104 games.

For the second consecutive season, sophomore guard Skyler Makkinje (Hillsboro, N.H.) has received the T.E.A.M. (Teamwork – Effort – Attitude - Motivation) Award. Makkinje appeared in 16 games while averaging 1.2 points, 0.8 rebounds, and 0.5 assists last winter and matched a career-high with five points in a win over Maine-Fort Kent on January 7th.

Saint Joseph's enjoyed a tremendous season under the watch of 19th-year Head Coach Mike McDevitt '83 last winter, going 20-8 overall and 12-1 in GNAC play en route to earning the #2 seed in the conference tournament. The Monks hosted and won a pair of GNAC Tournament tilts and proceeded to the conference title game against top-seeded Emmanuel College, but saw the 2011-12 campaign come to a close with a 68-57 loss at the hands of the Saints, a team that advanced all the way to the Elite 8 in the 2012 NCAA DIII Tournament.
