STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph's College (13-4, 4-0 GNAC) suffered a 60-52 defeat at the hands of University of New England (15-2, 9-1 CCC) in a non-conference women's basketball contest at the Harold AlfondHarold Alfond Center on Monday evening. The loss snaps a six-game winning streak for the Monks.

The Nor'easters held the lead for the majority of play, but the Monks clung to a single-digit deficit for most of the contest until the closing minutes when the visitors drained six-consecutive free throws to claim a game-high 13-point (60-47) advantage. The hosts responded with one last push, scoring five straight to make it a 60-52 game with 32 seconds left, but were unable to get closer as time ticked off the clock.

Saint Joseph's was led by senior Abby Young (North Yarmouth, Maine), who scored 18 with a team-best eight rebounds in the loss. Sophomore center Morgan Cahill (Yarmouth, Maine) added 14 points, seven boards and five blocks and senior forward Lindsay Moore (Barrington, N.H.) contributed 11 points, six caroms and four steals on the night.

Junior forward Kelly Coleman (Portland, Conn.) paced the Nor'easters with 17 points and pulled down six rebounds while sophomore guard Sadie DiPerro (South Portland, Maine/McAuley) netted a career-high 16 points with the help of a 4-7 performance from beyond the arc in the victory. Freshman center Alicia Brown (Greenland, N.H.) grabbed a game-high 10 caroms with seven points and four rejections to her credit and sophomore guard Meghan Gribbin (Windham, Maine) chipped in nine points for the visitors. Sophomore Lauren Hayden (Chantilly, Va.), who currently leads NCAA DIII in steals, pilfered four loose balls and tallied eight points and seven boards in the victory.

Saint Joseph's shot 40.4% (21-52) from the floor, 33.3% (3-9) from three-point distance, and 58.3% (7-12) from the free throw line while UNE shot 37.3% (19-51) overall, 35.7% (5-14) from downtown and 63% (17-27) from the charity stripe on the evening.

The Nor'easters held a 39-33 advantage on the glass and pulled down 15 offensive boards en route to the eight-point win. The Monks committed 28 turnovers while UNE lost the ball on 18 occasions and the teams both scored 13 points off the miscue tally.

Both programs return to the hardwood on Wednesday evening when Saint Joseph's plays at Bates College at 7:00 PM and UNE hosts Commonwealth Coast Conference rival Eastern Nazarene at 5:30 PM.

With the loss, Saint Joseph's falls to 49-15 all-time versus University of New England…the Nor'easters have now defeated the Monks in 10-consecutive meetings dating back to the 2005 season…for St. Joe's, tonight's losing deficit is the least during the losing streak at the hands of UNE…Morgan Cahill surpassed the 600 career-point plateau in this evening's game and now has 613 points over 44 career games.
