STANDISH, Maine – Junior center Morgan Cahill (Yarmouth, Maine) became the 22nd player in the 38-year history of the Saint Joseph's College women's basketball program to reach the 1,000-point milestone in a 78-53 victory over Mount Ida College in Newton, Massachusetts on Monday afternoon.

Cahill is just the sixth player in program history to reach the 1,000-point mark as a junior and first to do so since Stacey Gelinas '02 accomplished the feat in her third year in 2001. Cahill joins Gelinas, Linda Johnson '81, Carolyn Brooks '88, Mary Lou Kimball '89 and Kendra Coates '91 in the exclusive club.

Entering the game versus conference-rival Mount Ida, Cahill was 14 points shy of the four-digit mark and surpassed the plateau with a left-handed layup at the 13:51 mark of the second half. Sophomore guard Emily Kehoe (Perkinsville, Vt.) set up the play with a pass to her junior teammate on the left block.

Following the play, Head Coach Mike McDevitt '83 signaled for a timeout and the Mount Ida scorer's table acknowledged the achievement with a brief public address announcement. With the historic field goal extending the Monks' lead to 63-26, Cahill was removed from the game in favor of freshman Brianne Maloney (South Portland, Maine) and did not return to the floor.

Cahill, who currently has 1,001 points over 68 career games, has shot 47.0% (402-856) from the field and 65.7% (197-300) from the free throw line with 541 rebounds, 136 blocked shots, 75 assists and 61 steals over the last two and a half seasons. She currently ranks seventh in SJC women's basketball history with career averages of 14.7 points and 8.0 rebounds per contest and is also third all-time in blocks.

As of January 20th, Cahill leads the Monks in scoring (16.6 PPG), rebounding (7.8 RPG), blocked shots (17) and field goals made (78) and attempted (179). She ranks second in the conference in rejections and fourth in scoring. Through 12 games, she has paced the Royal Blue in scoring nine times and has been the Monks' leading rebounder on six occasions. Cahill has posted 24 double-doubles during her career, including four this winter.

One of the most decorated SJC athletes in recent memory, Cahill has garnered a stunning 46 weekly and postseason honors, including a pair of All-Conference and two All-State accolades, over the past two and a half years.

Cahill is the 17th player to join the 1,000-Point Club during McDevitt's 22-year tenure at Saint Joseph's. One of just four players to reach the milestone since 2004, Cahill joins former teammate Abby Young '14 on the 1,000-point banner.
