McNamara Named ECAC DIII New England Rookie of the Week

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College freshman Kelsi McNamara (West Newbury, Mass.) has been selected as the ECAC DIII New England Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week.

McNamara was also named as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) and Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA) Rookie of the Week and garnered New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) honor roll mention for her play in two games last week.

The freshman guard averaged 22.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists in a pair of victories for the Monks last week. She netted 35 points (9-18 FG, 6-8 3PT) in a 74-67 victory over Southern Maine on Sunday night to record the third-most points in SJC program history and most since the 1993-94 season. She also scored 10 points with five assists, five rebounds and five steals in a triumph over Maine-Farmington on Monday evening.

Through six contests this season, McNamara is averaging 15.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.2 steals per game while shooting 40.0% (25-65) from the field, 53.1% (17-32) from three-point range and 76.5% (26-34) from the free throw line. She leads the team in scoring, three-pointers made (17), three-point percentage, free throws made (26) and steals (13) and is tied for the team-lead in assists (19).

McNamara is the only Saint Joseph's women's basketball player to earn ECAC weekly honors in the last 11 years.

Saint Joseph's (5-1) returns to action on Saturday when the Monks face University of Maine-Fort Kent in the Colby College Invitational Tournament at 6:00 PM.
