Monks Cruise Past Falcons, 83-40

LYNN, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College (8-2) toppled Fisher College (2-5), 83-40, in a non-conference women's basketball contest on Saturday afternoon.

THE LEAD

Saint Joseph's put the game away before the break, as the Monks held a 45-29 lead after shooting 45.9% (17-37) during the first two quarters. The second stanza was even more one-sided with the visitors outscoring the hosts – who made just three field goals on 29 bids – by a 38-11 margin en route to the 43-point triumph.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S

  • Freshman guard Kelsi McNamara (West Newbury, Mass.) netted a game-high 14 points with five rebounds and seven assists
  • Senior center Morgan Cahill (Yarmouth, Maine) posted 12 points with 14 rebounds and three assists
  • Sophomore forward Norma Waggett (Saugus, Mass.) tallied 13 points and seven rebounds in just 10 minutes off the bench
  • Freshman forward Emily Benway (Rochester, N.H.) was 5-5 from the field with 10 points and four caroms
  • Junior forward Molly Mack (Portland, Maine) contributed six points ans six boards in seven minutes
  • Junior guard Emily Kehoe (Perkinsville, Vt.) chipped in with six points and six rebounds

LEADERS – FISHER

  • Murphy Carroll paced the Falcons with 13 points
  • Aliyanah McIntosh netted 10 with four rebounds
  • Christine Briggs pulled down eight caroms

NOTEWORTHY

  • St. Joe's broke the program's single-game rebounds record with 70 caroms in today's triumph, surpassing the former mark of 64, which was set in a 98-75 victory over University of New England on January 17th, 1990
  • All 17 of the Monks' players saw action this afternoon with freshman forward Ayla Tartre (Saco, Maine) netting her first career points off a 2-2 shooting effort
  • Today's margin of victory (43 points) is the largest for Saint Joseph's since the Royal Blue defeated Thomas College by 45 (81-36) on January 22nd, 2014

TEAM STATS

Saint Joseph's shot 38.4% (33-86) from the floor, 20% (5-25) from three-point distance and 75% (12-16) from the free throw line while Fisher posted marks of 19.4% (12-62), 17.4% (4-23) and 66.7% (12-18) from the field, beyond the arc, and the charity stripe, respectively.

Aside from the aforementioned lead on the glass, the Monks posted advantages in assists (21-5), steals (16-7), turnovers (17-22), points off turnovers (25-6), second-chance points (24-4) and bench points (42-5).

Saint Joseph's is off until Saturday, January 2nd when the team travels to Regis College for a 2:00 PM non-conference contest.
