Cahill & McNamara Earn Multiple Honors

STANDISH, Maine – Weekly honors have been released for the reporting period ending January 24th and a pair of Saint Joseph's College women's basketball players have earned multiple accolades.

Senior center Morgan Cahill (Yarmouth, Maine) has been named as the Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA) Co-Player of the Week and is listed on the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) and New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) weekly honor rolls.

Freshman guard Kelsi McNamara (West Newbury, Mass.) has been selected as the GNAC Rookie of the Week and is also listed on the MWBCA weekly honor roll.

Cahill averaged 15.3 points and 9.3 rebounds per game in a 3-0 week for the Monks. The senior center registered her sixth and seventh double-doubles of the season - bringing her career total to 33 double dips - and tallied 18 points and 13 boards in an overtime win over JWU on Saturday, becoming the sixth player in SJC program history to reach the 800-rebound plateau in the process. She shares the MWBCA honor with University of New England junior Alicia Brown (Greenland, N.H.), who averaged 18.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks while shooting 54 percent from the field in two victories last week.

McNamara averaged 11.7 points, 3.0 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.0 steals per game in three games last week. The freshman guard netted 16 in just 16 minutes against Thomas College on Wednesday and contributed 14 points - including six in overtime - in a crucial victory over reigning GNAC Champion Johnson & Wales University on Saturday.

Cahill, who has been chosen as the MWBCA Player of the Week three times this season and five times in her career, leads the Monks in scoring (15.4 PPG), rebounding (9.2 RPG), free goals made (109), free throws made (60), and blocked shots (40). One of the most decorated athletes in the history of Saint Joseph's athletics, Cahill has garnered an incredible 59 accolades during her collegiate career.

The GNAC rookie honor is the sixth of the season (in nine weekly reporting periods) for McNamara, who is currently averaging 14.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.8 steals per contest. She ranks second in the conference in three-pointers made (41) and three-point success (40.2%), and fifth in free-throw percentage (79.7%), assists (66), and steals (32).

Saint Joseph's (14-4, 4-0 GNAC) returns to the court Saturday with a home contest versus GNAC-rival University of Saint Joseph (CT). Tip-off is slated for 1:00 PM.
