STANDISH, Maine – Now that the dust has settled, it's time to look back on one of the most successful – and memorable – seasons in Saint Joseph's College women's basketball program history.
BY THE NUMBERS:
2 – seniors in team captains Abbie Eastman (Norway, Maine) and Emily Kehoe (Perkinsville, Vt.), a duo that helped Saint Joseph's post an 86-24 (.782) overall record, including a 41-8 (.837) mark in conference play, with three Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championships and a trio of NCAA Tournament berths.
3 – with an 81-70-overtime victory over Emmanuel College in the GNAC Championship, the Monks claimed their third GNAC title in the last four seasons
5 – different SJC players to notch at least one double-double during the 2016-17 season (McNamara (1), Champagne (2), Marks (1), McFerran (3), Benway (9))
5 – losses – the team's fewest since suffering a program-low three setbacks during the 2001-02 campaign
6 – number of times the Monks have defeated University of Southern Maine in the Costello Cup series, including a 67-63 triumph in Gorham early this season
7 – SJC players who averaged at least 6.0 points per game this season, the first time seven Monks have netted a half-dozen per contest since the 1992-93 campaign
8 – game winning streak (January 5-21), the Monks' longest since registering an eight-gamer in 2014 (SJC also recorded five and six game streaks this winter)
8.7 – rebounding average for sophomore forward Emily Benway (Rochester, N.H.), the highest average by an SJC player since Alison Cropley pulled down 9.4 caroms per game during the 1996-97 season
10 – Coach of the Year honors for Head Coach Mike McDevitt '83, who garnered GNAC and Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA) top skipper accolades this season
10 – blocked shots; the team-high posted by 5'6" sophomore guard Kelsi McNamara (West Newbury, Mass.)
11 – players on the 2016-17 SJC women's basketball roster; every player contributed in a meaningful way throughout the season
11 – conference championships won by Coach McDevitt
15 – GNAC victories, the most conference wins in a season in team history
16 – wins at home - Saint Joseph's was perfect (16-0) at the Harold Alfond Center this year, posting the sixth undefeated home season in SJC women's hoops history and first since 1994-95
23 – consecutive victories at the Alfond Center; a streak that began in January 2016
24 – victories, tied for the second-highest total in team history and most since the 1992-93 season
27 – rank in NCAA DIII Women's Basketball with a .828 winning percentage
79 – three-pointers made McNamara this season – the highest single-season total in team history and the ninth-highest number in NCAA DIII this year
209 – three-pointers made by the Monks as a team this year, the most in program history by a long shot (previous record, set last season, was 160)
466 – points scored by McNamara, the most an SJC player since Danielle Bouchard '95 scored 621 (program record) during the 1994-95 campaign
500 – career victories for Head Coach Mike McDevitt '83 (478 at Saint Joseph's) – the milestone win was recorded in the GNAC Championship; Coach McDevitt is the 30th NCAA DIII Women's Basketball skipper to reach the 500-victory mark and ranks 20th among active head coaches in career wins
635 – three-point field goals attempted, a new program record (surpassing last season's total of 503)
868 – points scored by McNamara through two collegiate seasons, the most through two years by any player in team history
