STANDISH, Maine - Weekly accolades have been announced and Saint Joseph's College junior guard Kelsi McNamara (West Newbury, Mass.) has earned honors from the Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA), the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA), and the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC),
The third-year starter has been selected as the MWBCA Player of the Week and has garnered NEWBA and GNAC weekly honor roll acclaim for her play in a pair of contests last week.
McNamara averaged 19.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game while shooting 50% (14-28) from the field and 46.7% (7-15) from three-point distance in a 2-0 week for the Monks. She netted 20 points - including 15 in the first quarter - in just 26 minutes in an 80-48 victory over Norwich on Saturday - a win that stretched the Monks' winning streak to a new GNAC record 23 games.
Through 25 contests for the 24-1 Monks, McNamara is averaging 17.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 1.8 steals per game while shooting 41.7% (149-357) from the field, 39.2% (73-186) from three-point distance, and 86.65 (71-82) from the free throw line. After nearly three full seasons, she already owns the Monks' career records for three-pointers made (217) and attempted (567) and currently ranks fourth in three-point shooting percentage (38.3%), free-throw shooting rate (82.7%), and assists average (4.7), fifth in scoring average (15.8), sixth in assists (393), ninth in points (1,310), and 10th in field goals attempted (1,103).
For McNamara, the MWBCA Player of the Week honor is the ninth of her collegiate career and sixth of the season. She has been listed on the NEWBA honor roll five times and earned GNAC honor roll mention on 10 occasions.
Saint Joseph's, the #1 seed in the GNAC Tournament, will host #8 Mount Ida College tonight at 5:30 PM.
