Stapelfeld Hits 1,000 Point Milestone

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College junior guard Cassandra Stapelfeld (Brookline, N.H.) scored the 1,000th point of her college career in a 70-62 victory at Albertus Magnus College on Saturday, January 25th.

Entering the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game five points shy of the milestone, Stapelfeld hit the milestone on the button when she netted a pair of free throws at the 2:53 mark of the first quarter. In 70 career games, the junior sharpshooter has netted 1,047 points.

The junior transfer entered her first season in Standish having scored 795 points over 50 games in single seasons at Endicott College and Simmons University. As a freshman at Endicott, Stapelfeld netted 249 points in 25 games for a 10.0 PPG average and shot 40.5% (45-111) from three-point range en route to earning Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Rookie of the Year honors.

Following her freshman year she transferred to Simmons where she enjoyed a breakout sophomore season, averaging 21.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per contest while shooting 43.9% (182-415) from the floor, 35.8% (54-151) from three-point distance, and 86.5% (128-148) from the FT line. She ranked seventh in the country – and second in the GNAC - in scoring average and 15th in the nation – and second in the conference – in FT% with 546 points in what played out to be her only season at Simmons, which unexpectedly ceased sponsorship of women's basketball following the 2019 campaign.

In 20 games with the Monks this winter, Stapelfeld is averaging 12.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game and shooting 38.2% (87-228), 33.6% (38-113), and 88.9% (40-45) from the floor, beyond the arc, and the FT line, respectively, with 252 total points.
