WENHAM, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College (2-0) toppled Gordon College (1-2), 73-52, in the final game of the Gordon Tip-Off Classic on Saturday afternoon. Junior guard Nina Howe (York, Maine) led all players with 13 points as the Monks featured four double-digit scorers in the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Monks and Fighting Scots played through six lead changes and four ties with the hosts holding a 22-16 lead at the 8:31 mark of the second quarter after Madison Wynbeek converted layups on consecutive Gordon possessions. SJC Head Coach Mike McDevitt '83 called a timeout to rally his troops and the huddle discussion seemed to have an effect, as Royal Blue rattled off 17 unanswered points to claim a 33-22 advantage with 3:35 before the break.
The Scots cut the gap to five points (33-28) with 1:25 left in the first half, but junior guard Angelica Hurley (Groveland, Mass.) drilled a pair of three-pointers in a matter of 30 seconds to provide the Monks with a 39-28 advantage heading into intermission.
Saint Joseph's proceeded to hold a double-digit lead for the remainder of the contest and attained a game-high 26-point (68-42) advantage after freshman Logan Brown (Brunswick, Maine) made a three-pointer with 5:58 left in the fourth quarter.
