Saint Joseph’s Defeats Dean, 80-5

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (15-4, 10-1 GNAC) defeated Dean College (0-19, 0-14 GNAC), 80-5, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's basketball contest at the Harold Alfond Center on Thursday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks set the tone early and started the game with 17 unanswered points. Leading 24-2 at the start of the second quarter, St. Joe's proceeded to give the majority of minutes to reserve players and milked the shot clock to single digits on nearly every possession for the remainder of the contest.

STATS OF THE GAME:

Saint Joseph's shot 50% from the floor (29-58) and three-point distance (11-22) and held the Bulldogs' shooters to a 2-for-33 (6.1%) effort overall…the Monks also scored 25 points on 25 Dean turnovers.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Junior Hannah Talon (Windham, Maine) netted 10 points with three steals and two assists
  • Freshman Logan Brown (Brunswick, Maine) came off the bench to score 10 points in 14 minutes
  • Junior Angelica Hurley (Groveland, Mass.) added nine points, six rebounds, and three assists
  • Freshman Elisabeth Stapelfeld (Brookline, N.H.) contributed nine points, two assists, and a pair of steals
  • Freshman Maddie Lebel (Hermon, Maine) chipped in with eight points, five rebounds, and two assists

LEADERS – DEAN:

  • Sophomore Cat Thomas (Woodbridge, Conn.) tallied two points, two steals, and a pair of rebounds
  • Freshman Carly Rettberg (Haddam, Conn.) added two points and three rebounds

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

Tonight's matchup between the Monks and Bulldogs was the first-ever between the institutions' women's basketball programs.

Saint Joseph's will host Norwich University on Saturday in a GNAC matchup slated to start at 1:00 PM.
