Men Place Fourth, Women Sixth at USM

GORHAM, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College indoor track & field teams kicked off the New Year with an event at the University of Southern Maine on Saturday. The SJC men placed fourth with 49 points while the Monks' women finished sixth with 30 points.

A pair of longstanding team records fell in the 2023 opener, as junior Brooklyn Goff (Biddeford, Maine) broke the Monks' High Jump mark with a 1.51m effort – topping Norma Waggett's 1.45m record set in 2015 – and the team's winning 4x200 Medley, featuring Ryan Farr (Gorham, Maine), Tyler Ricker (Montpelier, Vt.), Ethan Tardif (Auburn, Maine), and Abdirizak Abukar (Lewiston, Maine), posted a 1:36.24 time to break a record set in 2013 by Faisal Abdillahi, Connor Dufour, Billy Brooks, and Jack LaFreniere (1:37.30).

THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:

  • Junior Aaliyah WilsonFalcone (Winthrop, Maine) won the Triple Jump (10.44m)
  • Goff finished second in the 55-Meter Hurdles (9.35) and seventh in the High Jump
  • Freshman Paige Sawyer (Ellsworth, Maine) was third in the 55-Meter Hurdles (9.35)

THE RUNDOWN – MEN:

  • Abukar won the 400-Meter Dash (52.76) and was the runner-up in the 55-Meter Dash (6.66)
  • Grad Troy Hendricks (Hiram, Maine) finished third in the 1000-Meter Run (2:57.34)
  • Farr was third in the 200-Meter Dash (23.41)
  • Colin Monsen placed fourth in the Triple Jump (11.48m)
  • Sophomore Ryan Graham (Hopkinton, N.H.) finished fourth in the 800-Meter Run (2:15.56)

Saint Joseph's is back in action next Saturday with an appearance in the Suffolk University Invitational at the New Balance Center in Boston.
