SJC Women Forecasted to Place Fourth at 2024 GNAC Indoor Championship

WINTHROP, Mass. – The 2024 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships will take place on Sunday, Feb. 18 at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. with representatives from Colby-Sawyer, Emmanuel, Lasell, Regis, and Saint Joseph's (Maine) competing.

In preparation for Sunday's championship event, the league's five head track & field coaches conducted a Pre-Championship Poll with the Saint Joseph's (Maine) men and the Emmanuel women taking the top spots in the voting.

Emmanuel's women's team is hoping to return to the top of the podium this year after finishing as the GNAC runner-up the previous two seasons. They earned 23 points and three of the possible five first place votes in this year's poll.

Looking to challenge the Saints for the top spot will be Colby-Sawyer, which recorded 20 points and the two remaining first place votes. Defending GNAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Champion Regis finished third in the voting with 17 points with Saint Joseph's and Lasell earning nine and six points, respectively for the fourth and fifth spots.

Saint Joseph's seniors Brooklyn Goff (Biddeford, Maine) and Abby O'Brien (Gorham, Maine) headline the SJC women's team in all facets as top athletes and terrific leaders. The roster features 10 freshmen, including two-time GNAC Rookie of the Week Breya Whitman (Auburn, Maine), and the Monks, led by Director of Cross Country/Track & Field Mike Burleson, could improve on their projected finish if the first-years continue to raise the bar, as they have done most every event this winter.

Last season, Regis College claimed the team title with 134.50 points, just 10 points ahead of runner-up Emmanuel College, while Colby-Sawyer College placed third (81) and Lasell University was fourth (74). The Monks finished fifth with 59 points.

The GNAC Championships will feature 12 scoring events. The event order is available below.
