Monks Compete at 2023 Maine State Championship

LEWISTON, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College Indoor Track and Field teams competed in the 2023 Maine State Championship at Bates College. For the men, Bates took the overall team win with 205.5 points, 20.5 points ahead of runner-ups Bowdoin College. The Monks placed seventh overall with 18 points. For the women, Bowdoin took the win just 13.33 points ahead of fellow NESCAC school Bates with 173 points. St. Joes Women also placed seventh overall with a team score of 19 points.

There were many standout performances from the Monks, with two school records falling by the efforts of Brooklyn Goff (Biddeford, Maine) and Abdirizak Abukar (Lewiston, Maine). Goff broke the long jump record in her efforts with a solid jump of 4.88 meters (passing Marissa Hoffman's '21 record of 4.82). Abukar broke his own standing record in the 200-Meter Dash with a 22.75 effort.

 

THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:

  • Junior Brooklyn Goff (Biddeford, Maine) has been a stand-out performer for the Monks this season and continued to shine scoring in three of her individual events. Goff placed fourth in the 60 Meter Hurdles (9.92), fourth in the High Jump (1.51m), and eighth in the Long Jump with her new school record of 4.88m
  • Sophomore Lindy Hyndman (Auburn, Maine) was lightning out of the blocks to take fifth place overall in the 60-Meter Dash with a personal best time of 8.45
  • Junior Abby O'Brien (Gorham, Maine) skyrocketed the Weight for an 11.74m throw for a huge personal best (placing eighth). O'Brien also placed 20th in the Shot Put (8.47m)
  • Senior Kimberly Moulton (Franklin, Mass.) garnered a ninth-place finish in the Weight Throw with an 11.50m mark. Moulton also placed 22nd in the Shot Put (8.43m)
  • Alexia Young, Lindy Hyndman, Kate Luiz, and Brooklyn Goff placed sixth in the 4x200 Meter Relay with a 1:58.16 mark

THE RUNDOWN – MEN:

  • Freshman Abdirizak Abukar (Lewiston, Maine) sprinted for a 22.75 in the 200 Meter Dash for third place
  • Junior Ryan Farr (Gorham, Maine) placed fifth overall in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.33
  • Sophomore Tyler Ricker (Montpelier, Vt.) placed ninth overall in the triple jump with a mark of 11.79m and placed 13th in the Long Jump with a 5.98m mark. Ricker also placed 17th in the 200-meter Dash with a new personal best of 24.60
  • Ryan Farr, Tyler Ricker, Nick Carmosino, and Abdirizak Abukar paced the 4x400 Meter Relay to a fourth-place finish with a time of 3:40.65
  • Troy Hendricks, Ryan Graham, Alexey Seredin, and Devin Abbott placed sixth overall in the 4x800 Meter Relay
