Saint Joseph’s Baseball Handles Haverford, 11-2

Cape Coral, Florida- Behind outstanding pitching from senior right-hander Jerrett Shaffer and a 9-hit attack, Saint Joseph's College powered past Haverford, 11-2, Saturday at Cape Coral Complex. The Monks improve to 2-7 overall, while Haverford falls to 4-3 overall.

Shaffer improved his record to 1-1 by pitching 5.0 innings with only one walk, two runs, four hits and one strikeout. Haverford got only two runs on the day. The Fords got their runs on two solo home runs by Mike Primiani and Aaron Rabinowitz in the second inning and third inning.

Offensively, senior Nick Mirabello (2-for-3, three-run homerun) and freshman Tyler Bryant (2-for-3, two singles) had two hits apiece. Andy Exley went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI and Jake Rodden was 1-for-3 with a two-run single. White has now extended his hitting streak to 18-games.

Lucas Hannigan got Saint Joseph's on the scoreboard with a RBI single in the first inning off of Haverford starter Adam Huron (1-3, 1.0 innings, six hits, seven earned runs, two walks, one strikeout) and sophomore Jake Rodden followed with a two-run single to push the Monks lead to 3-0. The Monks made the score 8-0 after one inning with a Justin Lambert RBI single and three-run homer from Mirabello.

The Monks added two more runs in the fourth on a RBI single from Exley and a Jesse LaCasse sacrifice Fly. A one-run fifth inning capped the Monks' scoring on the day.

The Monks will next travel to Salve Regina for a two-game series, on Saturday, March 22 at 12 p.m. at Salve Regina Stadium.
