LaCasse Powers Monks Past Brandeis, 6-5

Senior Jesse LaCasse pounded out three hits, one being a three-run homerun, and scored a pair of runs to help Saint Joseph's College defeat Brandeis, 6-5, on Saturday, March 29, to get the Monks first win since returning from their spring break trip to Fort Myers, Fla. Saint Joseph's climbed to 3-7 on the season, while Brandeis dropped to 7-8.

Senior right-hander Charlie Buker (1-1) earned the win in Saint Joseph's victory over Brandeis. He pitched seven innings and gave up four runs on ten hits with nine strikeouts. Sophomore Matt Vasil threw one and two-thirds innings and struck out one while picking up a save in the contest.

Brandeis looked to be in control heading into the sixth inning with a 3-2 lead in the contest that was a question mark for both teams due to the weather. Sophomore Derek McIntosh began the Monks' rally when he was hit by a pitch. LaCasse followed with a single and Rusty Rutherford loaded the bases with a single of his own. Sophomore Andy Exley cracked a two run single to give the Monks a 4-3 lead that they would not relinquish. After senior Justin Lambert walked to load the bases, Nick Mirabello also walked to push the lead to 5-3.

LaCasse finished with three hits in five trips to the plate and three runs batted in. He drove in McIntosh with his fourth homerun of the season in the top of the fourth inning for the Monks first runs, and he added a RBI single in the seventh inning. Mirabello also had a multiple hit game, while Exley and McIntosh each added a hit for the Monks.
