Monks Walk Past Castleton State, 6-5

Rodden draws base loaded walk

Standish, Maine- Sophomore designated hitter Jake Rodden drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Saint Joseph's College Monks a 6-5 win over the Castleton State Spartans Sunday afternoon at Larry Mahaney Diamond. Clawing there way back from a 4-0 deficit, the Monks improve to 9-12 on the season, while the Spartans fell to 7-5.

Castleton State jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Chad Phillips and Jason Harrington reached on walks and Brent Perry singled to load the bases before coming around to score on Carlos Borrayo’s double to center field. Castleton State scored a run in the third to take a 4-0 lead.

Saint Joseph's College got on the board in the fourth inning when Nick Arno plated Ben Muniz with an RBI single to close the margin to 4-1.

The Monks got their first base runner when Andy Exley walked in their half of the fifth inning. Exley moved to second on a balk before scoring on a two-out double by Jesse LaCasse. Muniz drove in LaCasse with an RBI single to bring Saint Joseph's within one run. Derek McIntosh followed with a two-run homerun to give the Monks a 5-4 lead. The homer was the first of the year for McIntosh.

Castleton State’s Travis Myers lead of the sixth inning with a single. He eventually scored on a Mike Howe ground out for the tying run.

In Saint Joseph's half of the ninth, Nick Mirabello and Ben Muniz both reached on walks. After two outs, McIntosh reached on an error by shortstop Travis Myers to load the bases and bring up Jake Rodden, who was walked with two outs and a full count to give the Monks the win.
