Springfield, Mass.- The Monks (12-13) broke open a tied game (1-1) by scoring six runs in the sixth inning. The key hit was a three-run homer by senior second baseman Lucas Hannigan (Cape Elizabeth, Maine). Freshman first baseman Ben Muniz (Readfield, Maine) went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Senior Jerrett Shaffer (4-1) (Portland, Maine) was the winning pitcher.
Sophomore catcher Jeff Maurutis (Milford, CT) was 1-f0r-3 with a walk and RBI single to extend his hitting streak to eight games for the Golden Bears. Western New England’s seven-game winning streak comes to an end.
