LaCasse Breaks RBI Record In Baseball Sweep Of Becker College

Jesse LaCasse goes 2-for-4 with a grand slam, two-run homer, and six RBI

Standish, Maine - Jesse LaCasse broke the career record for runs batted in as he hit a grand slam, a two-run homer to drive in six runs, and Saint Joseph's (16-15) defeated Becker College (8-15-1) 13-6, in the second game of a doubleheader at Larry Mahaney Diamond on Sunday afternoon. Saint Joseph's College Ben Muniz’s solo homerun leading off the sixth inning lifted the Monks to a 5-3 victory over Becker College in the first game of the day.

LaCasse had two hits; both were home runs and finished with six RBI, to break the all-time career RBI record at Saint Joseph's College. LaCasse now has 180 career RBI, surpassing Steve Osborne (1996-2000) as the all-time leader.

Andy Exley led off the fourth inning by hitting a single, and Nick Mirabello moved him to second base with a single of his own. Each runner moved up a base after Derek McIntosh drew a walk to load the bases. LaCasse then drove a long pitch to left field to register his first grand slam of the year.

Saint Joseph's College received two insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on a two-run single by Matt Prunier. Dana DiRenzo capped the Monks scoring when he scored from third on a passed ball in the sixth inning.

Monks starter Bill Chapman (1-1) earned the win after tossing two innings to open the game, holding Becker to just two runs, no earned, on two hits while striking out two batters.

Becker’s William Powell took the loss after surrendering LaCasse's first home run in the first inning. He worked three innings allowing 10 runs, nine earned, on nine hits.

Game-1

With the score knotted at 3-3, Monk's Ben Muniz led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a homerun to left center field. After Nick Arno flied out to second, a single and stolen base from Tyler Bryant put him on second base. The Hawks had one out before Andy Exley delivered an insurance run with an RBI single to push the Monks lead to 5-3.

Monks reliever Alan Batcheldor (2-3) earned the win after holding the Hawks to no runs in his only innings of the game. He allowed only one hit and one walk while striking out one batter. Starter Kenneth Peck allowed just one unearned run in two innings but did not figure in the decision.

Becker's starter Rory McDonald pitched well, allowing five runs in 6.0 innings while striking out a tow batters, but was charged with five walks.
