Barden (St. Albans, ME) celebrated her birthday with two goals in
helping the Eagles top Saint Joseph's College, 3-1.
Sophomore Shawna Bell (Corinth, ME) got Husson on the board first
with a goal 3:24 into the game on a cross from senior Sara McIntire
(Belfast, ME). Saint Joseph's would answer 7 minutes later with the
tying goal by first-year player Amanda MacPheters
(Dover-Foxcroft, ME) assisted by sophomore Stacy
Andrus (Sanbornton, NH).
Barden got the go-ahead goal with just under 15 minutes to go in
the half when the ball was played ahead and she put it home on a
breakaway goal. Barden then gave the Eagles some insurance with her
second goal on an assist from McIntire with just 3:30 left to
play.
Sophomore goalie Kelly Bocchino (Vassalboro, ME) had 5 saves
against 6 shots. She faced constant pressure in the second half,
but with the help of junior halfback Jenna Strunjo (Athol, MA),
managed to keep the Monks scoreless. Sophomore Amanda Furbish
(Kittery, ME) help Bocchino out at the 5-minute mark when she
prevent the tying goal as she hit the ball away.
Saint Joseph's sophomore goalie Mandy Gosselin
(Lebanon, ME) had 6 saves against 13 shots. Saint Joseph's falls to
0-4 on the season while Husson is now 1-1.
Saint Joseph's next game is at Simmons College in Boston on Sat.,
Sept. 17 at 1 PM.
