St. Joe's Suffers 2-1 OT Loss to Huskies

STANDISH, MAINE - A strong effort by Saint Joseph's came up short as a goal by USM senior Kayla Vaughan (Monroe, ME) in the second minute of overtime pushed the Huskies to a 2-1 victory.

USM (5-6) took a 1-0 lead at 29:05 on a goal by sophomore Samantha Johnson (Mexico, ME) and held a 9-0 advantage in shots in the first half.

Junior Sarah Kay (Lewiston, ME) gave St. Joe's (0-9) a lift scoring the tying goal with just under seven minutes to go in regulation. St. Joe's had two penalty corners in the second half, but was unable to get another goal past the Huskies defense.

Sophomore keeper Mandy Gosselin (Lebanon, ME) had nine saves for St. Joe's while USM keeper first year Natalie Nimon (Augusta, ME) faced only the shot by Kay.

The St. Joe's squad plays at Wheelock College (MA) on Saturday, October 8, at 3:30 PM.
