SJC Field Hockey Posts 3-2 Come-From-Behind Victory Over Anna Maria

Paxton, MA - Junior Darcey Ward (Dresden, ME) scored two goals to lift the Monks (2-4) to a 3-2 victory over Anna Maria College (2-6).

Anna Maria jumped out to an early lead with a goal by Lauren Hachey at 11:13 and Alicia Gray followed with her second goal of the year to give the Amcats a 2-0 lead going into half-time.

The Monks came alive after the break, out-shooting Anna Maria 17-2 and holding a 9-3 advantage in penalty corners. Ward put St. Joe's on the board with a goal at 41:10 to make it 2-1. First year Julie Ostrowski (Albany, NY) recorded her first intercollegiate goal to tie the game at 43:33.

In dramatic fashion, first-year goal keeper Ashley Tessier (Enfield, NH) stopped a penalty stroke to keep St. Joe's alive. Several minutes later Ward scored the game winner on penalty stroke.

Tessier finished with two saves and Rachel Braier had 10 saves in the loss.

St. Joe's plays back-to-back home games this weekend against Boston rivals Wheelock College on Saturday, Sept. 30, at 2:30 PM, and Regis College on Sunday, October 1, at 12 noon.
