Standish, ME - The SJC field hockey squad got back on track with
a 4-3 overtime win over visiting Husson College today. FY
Maria Arsenault (Berlin, NH) led the Monks with a
pair of goals and an assist. SJC keeper FY Kathleen
Simoes (Wakefield, MA) made nine impressive saves to
ensure the victory.
St. Joe's (4-1) got on the board eight minutes into play as
Arsenault connected on a pass from SO Julia
Ostrowski (Albany, NY) and SR captain Darcey
Ward (Dresden, ME) followed less than two minutes later
with a goal off a pass from JR captain Gina
Gaetani (Auburn, ME) to put the Monks up 2-0.
FY Skye Ellis (Belfast, ME) netted a pass from JR Erica Dorso
(Farmingdale, ME) at 12:32 for the Eagles (1-2) and the score
remained locked at 2-1 until eleven minutes into the second
half.
Ward found Arsenault off a penalty corner to extend the SJC lead to
3-1 at 46:57, but Ellis kept the Eagles in it with a goal, again
assisted by Dorso.
Husson tied the score at 3-3 after Dorso found SO Sarah Hessert
(Hampden, ME) with just over eight minutes to play in regulation.
The Monks threatened several times in the final two minutes, but
failed to convert.
FY Courtney Rague (Old Orchard Beach, ME) drilled
a pass from Arsenault into the back of the net for the sudden-death
victory at 81:30.
The Monks play at Maine-Farmington on Tuesday, September 18th at 4
p.m.
