Monks Ground Hawks, 4-1

LEICESTER, MA - Saint Joseph's (10-4, 3-1 NAC) defeated Becker College (8-9, 6-0 NECC), 4-1, in a non-conference contest on Tuesday afternoon. Four different SJC players tallied a goal and Julia Ostrowski '10 (Albany, NY) dished out three assists in the victory. Goalkeeper Taylor Allison '12 (Pawtucket, RI) made three saves to collect her second win of the season.

NAC Player of the Week Kayla Nowell '11 (Bridgton, ME) ignited the St. Joe's offense and provided the Royal Blue with a 1-0 edge when she netted her 16th goal of the fall past Becker keeper Ciara Lawrence (Costa Mesa, CA) off a pass from Ostrowski in the 18th minute. The marker was the 24th of Nowell's career and place her atop the St. Joe's career goals list. Previous record-holder Jen Marsh scored 23 goals in two seasons (1999, 2000).

The Hawks answered back with 55 seconds remaining in the first half. Victoria Sirchia (Goshen, CT) scored on a rebounded ball that bounced off Allison's leg-pad to knot the game, 1-1. Jessica Provencher (Berwick, ME) was credited with an assist on the play.

After a 1-1 stalemate opening stanza, the Saint Joseph's offense came out in the latter half to net three markers and secure a 4-1 victory.

Jillian Kimball '10 (Albany Township, ME) scored her third goal of the season on a penalty corner at the 36:02 mark to lift the Lady Monks to a 2-1 advantage. Ostrowski recorded her second helper of the game on the play.

Gina Gaetani '09 (Auburn, ME) padded the SJC lead four minutes later with her 11th goal of the year. Courtney Rague '11 (Old Orchard Beach, ME) dealt a crossing pass to the senior to set up the play.

St. Joe's would cap the game scoring and seal the 4-1 victory in the 59th minute. Ostrowski, streaking down the left side, drove to the net and slid a pass under a diving Lawrence to Alyssa McCarthy '12 (Westbrook, ME), who finished the play to record her first collegiate goal.

Saint Joseph's outshot Becker by an 18-6 margin and held the edge in penalty corners, 10-3.

For the Hawks, keeper Ciara Lawrence made 12 stops in the losing effort.

St. Joe's will host NAC opponent Simmons College (4-11, 0-4 NAC) on Saturday, October 25th at 1:00 PM.
