Monks Reject Lasers, 5-1

STANDISH, ME - Kayla Nowell '11 (Bridgton, ME) tallied three goals and Julia Ostrowski '10 (Albany, NY) dished out four assists to lead St. Joe's (12-4, 5-1 NAC) past conference foe Lasell College (7-9, 2-4), 5-1, on Sunday afternoon at Lakeside Field.

With a 5-1 NAC record in their first year in the league, the Lady Monks completed the conference portion of their schedule in a three-way tie for the NAC regular season championship with Castleton State and Farmington. As a result of NAC tiebreaker rules, St. Joe's earns the #3 seed and will host Thomas College on Wednesday, October 27th (time TBD).

Not to be outdone by teammate Julia Ostrowski, who netted a hat trick in yesterday's 5-0 win over Simmons College, Kayla Nowell scored three times in the first half to reach the 20 goal plateau on the season. The sophomore has accumlated 20 goals and 14 assists for 54 points.

Along with Nowell's three scores, Alyssa Dunn '11 (Standish, ME) added a pair of goals, the second on a penalty stroke, in the opening half to account for the Royal Blue offense on the day. Ostrowski assisted on four of the goals and has tallied 14 goals and 15 assists for 43 points this fall. Jillian Kimball '10 (Albany Township, ME) added a pair of helpers and captain Gina Gaetani '09 (Auburn, ME) also recorded an assist in the game.

Caitlyn Walker '10 (Middlebury, CT) scored her 20th marker of the season at the 39 minute mark off a Meagan DeAndrade '10 (New Bedford, MA) pass to cap the game scoring with St. Joe's on top, 5-1.

Meaghan Johnson '12 (Portland, ME/Cheverus) made one save in 49:41 minutes. Taylor Allison '12 (Pawtucket, RI) did not face a shot in 20:19 of relief work.

Christine Thornton '12 (Canton, MA) made seven saves in 28:22 minutes in goal and Amanda Miller '09 (Fall River, MA), in 41:38 of relief, made five saves for Lasell.

The Lady Monks outshot the Lasers by a comfortable 18-3 margin and also held a 14-4 lead in penalty corners in the NAC matchup.

#3 Seed Saint Joseph's will host #6 Thomas College (3-12, 1-5 NAC) in a conference quarterfinal matchup on Wednesday, October 29th (time TBD).
