Ostrowski Hat Trick Lifts Monks to 5-0 Win

STANDISH, ME - Julia Ostrowski '10 (Albany, NY) netted three first half goals to help Saint Joseph's (11-4, 4-1 NAC) defeat Simmons College (5-12, 0-5 NAC) on Saturday afternoon at Lakeside Field.

Ostrowski ignited the SJC offense in the 14th minute with an unassisted tally to provide her team with a 1-0 advantage. Two minutes later, the junior attacker blasted her 13th goal of the season off a pass from Kayla Nowell ‘11 (Bridgton, ME) to put the Lady Monks up 2-0 early in the contest.

Nowell notched her team-leading 17th goal of the year with 13:16 remaining in the opening stanza off an Alyssa Dunn ‘11 (Standish, ME) pass and Ostrowski scored her third of the game, 14th of the year, on a rebound as time expired to give St. Joe's a 4-0 cushion going into the halftime break.

Courtney Rague ‘11 (Old Orchard Beach, ME) scored her first goal of the season with nine minutes remaining to cap the game scoring with St. Joe's on top, 5-0. Jillian Kimball ‘10 (Albany Township, ME) was credited with an assist on the play.

St. Joe's outshot Simmons by a 17-6 margin and held the penalty corner edge, 10-7 in the conference conquest. Goalkeepers Meaghan Johnson ‘12 (Portland, ME/Cheverus) and Taylor Allison ‘12 (Pawtucket, RI) split the game for the Royal Blue and made two and three saves, respectively. Nowell led the home squad with seven shots while Ostrowski recorded four attempts.

Mary Simeoli ‘12 (Westfield, MA) made nine stops in net for the Sharks of Simmons College while Melanie Black ‘12 (Hyannis, MA) paced the visitors with three shots in the losing effort.

Saint Joseph's will host conference foe Lasell College on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 PM while Simmons College will travel to Bangor, ME to take on Husson University in a NAC contest on Sunday at 1:00 PM.
