STANDISH, ME - Saint Joseph's (6-1, 2-0 NAC) defeated Wheelock
College (2-8), 9-0, in non-conference field hockey action at
Lakeside Field on Thursday afternoon. Julia
Ostrowski '10 (Albany, NY),
Stephanie Lombardo '13 (Steep
Falls, ME) and Kerri Boutin '10
(Georgetown, MA) all netted a pair of goals in the lopsided
victory.
The first 15 minutes of play yielded no scoring, but the Monks
tallied four goals in four minutes, two each off the sticks of
Ostrowski and Boutin, to put the
game out of reach for the Wildcats, who were unable to muster a
shot in the loss.
Kayla Nowell '11 (Bridgton, ME)
added a goal and two assists and Jordan
Dumont '13 (Shapleigh, ME) netted a goal and an
assist for the Monks. Amanda
Sebastiao '12 (Uxbridge, MA) scored her first goal
of the 2009 campaign while Olivia
Tourangeau '12 (Old Orchard Beach, ME) and
Sarah Bartell '12 (Exeter, NH)
both chipped in with assists in the triumph.
St. Joe's recorded single-game season highs with 26 shots and 23
shots on net. Wheelock keeper Meredith Race '11 (Marion, MA) made
12 saves while teammate Alanna Pihl '12 (Franconia, NH) helped out
with a defensive save in the loss.
Saint Joseph's will host conference rival University of
Maine-Farmington on Saturday at 1:00 PM. Wheelock will also
participate in conference action on Saturday when the Wildcats play
host to NECC opponent Elms College in a 1:00 PM contest.
