UNION, NJ – Kean University (5-1) shut out Saint Joseph's (3-2) by a 2-0 margin in a non-conference field hockey contest Sunday afternoon. Monks goalkeeper Meaghan Johnson '12 (Portland, ME/Cheverus) made 11 saves in a losing effort.

Olivia Triano gave the Cougars the early lead in the first half, firing a shot from the right baseline into the side of the cage for the 1-0 edge at the 15:11 mark. The 1-0 edge held until Kelly Mataya converted a penalty stroke with 9:09 remaining to double the hosts' lead.

The Cougars held a 27-7 advantage in shots over St. Joe's, including a 18-6 edge in penalty corners.

Alyssa Dunn '11 (Standish, ME) notched four defensive saves for the Monks, while Elizabeth Andersen '13 (Cumberland, ME) had two shots on net in the loss. Cougars keeper Lauren Dobbs made three stops to post her third shutout of the young season.

Johnson has now started 30 straight games in net for the Monks, including 13 consecutive complete games; spanning 984 minutes between the pipes. Through five games, the junior netminder sports a .872 save percentage – 34 saves, five goals allowed - with an even 1.00 goals against average.

Saint Joseph's, which lost to FDU-Florham yesterday by a 1-0 score, hasn't been shutout in back to back games since being goose-egged by University of Maine-Farmington and Keene State on September 18th and 20th, respectively, during the 2007 season.

The Monks will play at Southern Maine on Thursday, September 23rd at 4:00 PM.
