Saint Joseph’s Stops Salem State, 1-0

SALEM, Mass. - Sophomore Bailey Cutler (Lisbon Falls, Maine) notched the lone goal as the Monks of Saint Joseph's College earned a 1-0 victory over the Vikings of Salem State on Thursday night at Alumni Field. The Monks improve to 5-1 on the year while the Vikings drop to 2-5.

Despite being outshot 6-2, Carolyn Woodin (Arlington, Mass.) kept the Monks off the scoreboard in the first half as she saved all six Saint Joseph's shots, including a penalty shot from Elyse Caiazzo (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus).  However, the Vikings were only able to get off two shots in the period, with both being stopped by Saint Joseph's freshman keeper Megan Baker (Gorham, Maine).

After an uneventful first half, Cutler broke the silence at the 22-minute mark when she beat Woodin low, on her left side, to give the Monks a 1-0 edge. Salem State's offense was unable to get in a rhythm as they combined for four shots total throughout the match. Unable to answer the Monk's goal, the Vikings absorbed the 1-0 loss.

Woodin totaled nine saves in the match while Baker picked up four saves in the victory.

The Vikings will next host conference opponent Worcester State at 1:00 p.m. on September 26th. The Monks will entertain GNAC-rival Anna Maria College in a rematch of the 2015 GNAC Tournament semifinal on September 26th at 11:00 am.
