Baker & Pomerleau Garner GNAC Weekly Accolades

STANDISH, Maine - The first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly awards of the 2018-19 academic year have been released and a pair of Saint Joseph's College field hockey players have earned honors.

Junior forward Libby Pomerleau (Limerick, Maine) has claimed GNAC Player of the Week honors and senior Megan Baker (Gorham, Maine) has been selected as the GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week.

Pomerleau helped the Monks kick off the season with a pair of wins by scoring three goals in triumphs over Liberty League powerhouse Skidmore College and perennial NEWMAC standout Wellesley College over the weekend. The junior forward scored twice, including the game-winner, in a 3-2 win over Skidmore on Friday and tacked on her third goal of the season in a 7-0 win over Wellesley on Sunday.

The weekly top player honor is a career second for Pomerleau, who netted 22 goals with 49 total points en route to claiming GNAC Offensive Player of the Year honors last fall. Through just over two seasons, Pomerleau has scored 41 goals with 15 assists for 97 points with a program-record 17 game-winning goals.

Baker was outstanding in goal for the Monks in the two wins, as the senior netminder tallied 10 total saves while allowing two goals over 140 minutes over the weekend. Baker registered seven saves in the 3-2 triumph over Skidmore on Friday, with one of goals being scored on a wild deflection during a corner after time expired, and steered away three shots in the 7-0 win over Wellesley on Sunday.

For Baker, the GNAC weekly keeper award is the fifth of her career and first since September 18th, 2017. The two-time First Team All-Conference honoree has played in 60 career games with a 0.98 GAA and a .771 save percentage with 22 shutouts and a 40-17 record as a four-year starter.

Saint Joseph's (2-0) kicks off GNAC play with a 12:00 PM game at Anna Maria College on Saturday.
