STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (8-1, 3-0 GNAC) blanked Simmons University (2-6, 0-2 GNAC), 4-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) field hockey contest at the SJC Athletics Complex on Saturday.
THE LEAD
Sophomore midfielder Alexandra Belaire (Greene, Maine) scored a goal and assisted on two others to help the Monks remain undefeated in conference play.
THE REST OF THE STORY
Saint Joseph's grabbed an early lead when junior midfielder Maddy Beaulieu (West Gardiner, Maine) scored off an Arianna Kahler (Lisbon Falls, Maine) pass off a penalty corner at the 4:59 mark and doubled their advantage in the 20th minute when junior Libby Pomerleau (Limerick, Maine) netted her eighth goal of the year.
Freshman Emma Rutledge (Alfred, Maine) scored with six seconds left in the first half and Belaire capped the game scoring with an unassisted marker at the 55:21 mark.
THE KEEPERS
SJC senior netminder Megan Baker (Gorham, Maine) steered away all three shots she faced in the shutout win while Simmons sophomore Lucy McNamara (Brewster, Mass.) made eight saves in a losing effort.
TEAM STATS
Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (17-5), shots on goal (13-3), and penalty corners (11-6) in the victory.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING
With the win, Saint Joseph's is now 19-8 in the history of the series with Simmons University and has now defeated the Sharks in five-consecutive meetings, a streak that began during the 2016 campaign.
