BANGOR, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (3-0) defeated Husson University (0-2), 2-1, in a non-conference field hockey contest on Thursday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks scored just 1:59 into the game when sophomore Emma Rutledge (Alfred, Maine) found the back of the cage off an Alexandra Belaire (Greene, Maine) pass on a penalty corner play.

The 1-0 edge remained until the 28th minute, when sophomore Meghan Hill (Brookline, N.H.) scored on another SJC penalty corner. Rutledge was credited with an assist on what proved to be the game-winning tally.

Husson made things interesting when Adelle Foss scored off a corner as time wound down in the second quarter, but the 2-1 lead remained until the final buzzer as neither team was able to hit pay dirt over the closing 30 minutes.
