ON THIS DATE - Field Hockey Edges Kean University, 2-1

On September 10th, 2011 the Saint Joseph's College field hockey team defeated Kean University, 2-1 in overtime, in a non-conference contest at Mercy Field.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • TJ Cowin (Newry, Maine) netted the game-winner in the fourth minute of overtime to lift the Monks to their first-ever victory over Kean, a perennial favorite in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC), which is known to be one of the strongest field hockey conferences in the country
  • Senior Sarah Bartell (Exeter, N.H.) tied the game with a goal in the 56th minute
  • Senior goalkeeper Meaghan Johnson (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) turned away 13 shots in what was the Monks' 2011 home-opener
  • Freshman Peyton Dostie (Standish, Maine) assisted on both of the SJC goals in the overtime triumph
  • All Saint Joseph's programs have combined to post an 18-16-4 (.474) record in games played on this date
