ON THIS DATE: Monks Slip Past Fighting Scots in Shootout

On October 9th, 2017 Saint Joseph's College edged Gordon College, 2-1 in penalty strokes, in a non-conference field hockey contest in Wenham, Massachusetts.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Trailing 1-0 for most of the game, the Monks tied the tilt when sophomore forward Libby Pomerleau (Limerick, Maine) netted her 13th goal of the season in the 65th minute
  • After two 15-minute periods failed to produce a winner, the New England region foes headed to penalty strokes, where Pomerleau, Arianna Kahler (Lisbon Falls, Maine), and Elyse Caiazzo (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) converted their attempts to lift the Monks to a 3-2 advantage and the victory
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Kaylin Mansir (Gardiner, Maine) did not make a save in regulation or overtime but made the decisive stop in the penalty stroke shootout
