10/31/16 - Baker & Caiazzo Claim GNAC Weekly Honors

STANDISH, Maine – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly accolades have been announced and a pair of Saint Joseph's College field hockey players have been honored.

Sophomore Megan Baker (Gorham, Maine) has been selected as the GNAC Corvais Goalkeeper of the Week, and junior midfielder Elyse Caiazzo (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) is the GNAC Corvais Player of the Week.

Baker earned her second-consecutive weekly honor after registering three shutouts last week with wins over UMass.-Dartmouth, Maine-Farmington, and Mount Ida College. The sophomore keeper posted a pair of stops in a 1-0 win over the Corsairs on Monday and made seven saves in a 2-0 triumph over the Beavers on Wednesday.

Caiazzo tallied two goals and an assist in a 3-0 week for the Monks, as the junior midfielder netted the game-winner in a 1-0 win over UMass.-Dartmouth on Monday and assisted on the winner in a 2-0 triumph over Maine-Farmington on Wednesday.

In 13 games – all starts – so far this season, Baker sports an 8-5 record with a 1.17 goals against average and five shutouts. The second-year starter has allowed 14 goals with 38 saves over 838 minutes for a .731 save percentage and currently leads the conference in fewest goals allowed, goals against average, and shutouts. She has not allowed a goal since a 1-0 overtime defeat at the hands of Husson University on September 28th.

Caiazzo has started 13 games this fall for the Monks with two goals and two assists for six total points. The Player of the Week honor is the first of her field hockey career and second weekly award overall, as the second-year player claimed GNAC Rookie of the Week acclaim on September 21st, 2015.

10/31/16 - Bell Named GNAC Co-Player of the Week

STANDISH, Maine – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly awards have been announced and Saint Joseph's College junior forward Austin Bell (Gorham, Maine) has been selected as the GNAC Corvais Men's Soccer Co-Player of the Week.

Bell almost singlehandedly lifted the Monks to a quarterfinal victory over Mount Ida Saturday, as the junior captain netted three goals in the 4-0 triumph to help his team advance to the semifinals for the first time since 2011.

Through 18 games for the 14-1-4 Monks, Bell has netted six goals with three game-winners and ranks second on the side in both categories. The GNAC weekly honor is the third of his career and second of the season, as the junior captain was also selected as the top player for the reporting period ending October 2nd.

Bell shares the weekly accolade with Norwich University senior Jacob Zimmerman (Litchfield, N.H.), who also tallied a hat trick in a 4-1 quarterfinal victory over Rivier University on Saturday.
