ON THIS DATE: MONKS STUN #10 MONTCLAIR STATE IN NCAA OPENING ROUND, 1-0

On November 9th, 2016 the Saint Joseph's College field hockey team edged #10 Montclair State, 1-0, in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament at Sprague Field in Montclair, New Jersey.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • The victory was the first NCAA Tournament triumph in program history as the Monks advanced to the "Sweet 16" with the win
  • Freshman forward Libby Pomerleau (Limerick, Maine) scored with 16:58 remaining in the second half
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Megan Baker (Gorham, Maine) made eight saves in the upset victory
  • Sophomore defender Kayla Veilleux (Sabattus, Maine) made a huge defensive save with 9:09 left in the contest
