Skidmore Defeats Saint Joseph's, 4-1

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Skidmore College (2-0) defeated Saint Joseph's College (1-1), 4-1, in a non-conference field hockey contest on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The teams swapped scores in the first quarter, when Carrie Hughes hit pay dirt at the 4:31 mark and SJC sophomore Abbie Jacques (Mount Vernon, Maine) knotted the game at 1-1 with her first tally of the season five minutes later on a penalty corner play.

The Thoroughbreds went on to net three unanswered goals, including a pair from Mia Angwin, over a 17-minute span in the second and third quarters.

TEAM STATS:

Skidmore held the lead in shots (15-6), shots on goal (13-3), and penalty corners (8-5) in the victory.

THE KEEPERS:

St. Joe's sophomore Kassidy Collins (Gardiner, Maine) made eight saves in the losing effort while Skidmore keeper Victoria Bodnar posted a pair of stops in the triumph.

SJC freshman Elle Hall (Casco, Maine) registered a defensive save in the setback.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the loss, Saint Joseph's falls to 3-2 in the history of the series with Skidmore College. Prior to this afternoon, the Thoroughbreds had dropped three straight games to the Monks with the last win (2-0) coming in the 2016 NCAA Tournament.

In a quick turnaround, the Monks will host Wellesley College tomorrow at 1:00 PM.
