BRIGHTON, Mass. – Simmons University (10-1, 5-1 GNAC) blanked Saint Joseph's College (7-5, 4-2 GNAC), 3-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) field hockey contest on Wednesday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Sharks broke an evenly matched scoreless tie in the 25th minute when Anna Tedeschi scored off passes from Riley Lambert and Sydney Gonyea.
The hosts doubled their lead when Hannah Groves scored on a penalty corner in the 34th minute with assists being credited to both Haley Dover and Tedeschi. Simmons capped the game scoring in the 43rd minute when Tedeschi hit pay dirt off a Lambert pass.
TEAM STATS:
Simmons held the lead in shots (11-8), shots on goal (8-4), and penalty corners (7-5) in the conference victory.
THE KEEPERS:
SJC sophomore Kassidy Collins (Gardiner, Maine) made five saves in the loss while Simmons netminder Emma Sheehan turned away three shots to post her fourth shutout of the year.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
With the result, Saint Joseph's falls to 20-8 all-time versus Simmons University. The Sharks, who defeated the Monks by a 2-1 score in Standish last fall, have defeated the Royal Blue in consecutive meetings for the first time since the 2015 campaign.
