Waryas Headlines Monks’ 2022 All-Conference List

STANDISH, Maine – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) field hockey postseason awards have been announced and five Saint Joseph's College players have earned accolades.

Freshman Maya Waryas (Bellows Falls, Vt.) highlights the list of Monks' honorees after collecting GNAC Rookie of the Year, Second Team All-GNAC, and GNAC All-Rookie Team accolades.

Senior Morgan Dalton (Livermore Falls, Maine) is a First Team selection while Waryas and seniors Alexa Gutowski (North Conway, N.H.) and Molly McCluskey (Orono, Maine) have been listed on the Second Team. Senior Aimee Adams (Gardiner, Maine) rounds out the group of SJC selections as a Third Team honoree.

Waryas enjoyed perhaps the finest rookie season in the 28-year history of the Saint Joseph's field hockey program as the first year forward netted 23 goals with three assists for 49 total points along with six game-winning tallies in 2022. She established a new single-season goals record, breaking the 22-goal mark previously held by Libby Pomerleau '20, and her points tally is tied for the fourth highest in team history.

A three-time GNAC Rookie of the Week selection and October 17th GNAC Player of the Week honoree, Waryas ranked second in the conference in game winners, third in goals and shots (118), and fifth in points as a freshman.

Dalton, a 2021 Second Team All-GNAC pick, collects First Team honors after netting four goals on 10 shots with a GNAC-high nine defensive saves in 20 games this fall. The elite defender played in 71 games over four seasons and made 14 defensive saves, the second-highest total in program history.

Gutowski earns Second Team All-Conference honors for the second time after netting 12 goals with a pair of assists for 26 total points during her senior season. In 51 career contests the senior co-captain produced 23 goals and 50 total points and ranks among the program's all-time leaders in both categories.

McCluskey takes home All-Conference honors for the first time after registering career-highs in goals (4), assists (15), points (23), shots (47), and shots on goal (27) during a stellar senior season. The 2022 co-captain's assist tally is the second highest in team history and ranked third in the conference this fall. In 44 career games, McCluskey scored five goals with 19 assists for 29 total points.

Adams also collects her first All-GNAC accolade after scoring 11 goals with five assists for 27 total points during a breakout senior campaign. The standout midfielder ranked second on the team in points and third in goals and capped her college career with 14 goals and 12 assists for 27 points in 58 games.

Led by 18th-year Head Coach Rupert Lewis, the Monks posted an 11-9 overall record with an 8-3 mark in conference play. As the #3 seed in the GNAC Tournament, St. Joe's hosted #6 Lasell University in quarterfinal action on October 29th and suffered a season-ending 2-1 loss in double overtime at the SJC Athletics Complex.
